What is Hypoallergenic dog food?

Hypoallergenic dog food is food that is free from artificial colours, preservatives or flavours as these can be harmful to a dogs health. It is defined as “having little likelihood of causing an allergic response.” Hypoallergenic dog food should limit any ingredients that can trigger an allergic reaction.

Some symptoms of food allergies to look out for include vomiting or diarrhoea, frequent scratching and red, inflamed skin.

What are the benefits of feeding a hypoallergenic dog food?

  • Your dog is unlikely to be allergic to the food or have any adverse effects.
  • Hypo-allergenic dog food can reduce the number of health problems that are common in dogs such as arthritis and obesity.

Switching to a hypoallergenic dog food

As we want the best for our pooches, it’s important to feed them healthy, natural grain-free food. At Pooch & Mutt, our whole range of foods is hypoallergenic, so you have the choice of either wet or dry food, or both! When switching dog foods it is recommended that you introduce the new food gradually replacing 25% of their existing food for the first 2-3 days, then 50% for a further 2-3 days, then 75% for a final 2-3 days.
