If you’ve got your finger on the pulse of all things dogs, nutrition and care (just like we have), you may have seen that earlier this year, Pooch & Mutt expanded with the acquisition of gut health specialists, BIOME9. This means from August, things are going to be looking a little different around here - but only for the better!
But before we get into the swing of things, we thought we’d tell you a little more about this latest venture, what it means for Pooch & Mutt, and our pack of loving dog owners (that’s you!).
BIOME9 is a pet science brand that champions optimal health and wellbeing for dogs. Particularly through investigating and supporting gut health and the gut microbiome.
Using cutting-edge science, research and AI, BIOME9’s goal has been to, in their words:
“Deep-dive into your dog’s microbiomes, identify gaps, and offer personalised support strategies to combat the effects of modern lifestyles. And in doing so, redefining the benchmark for global pet health and wellbeing.”
In January 2025, BIOME9 became a part of the Pooch & Mutt family.
After our launch, BIOME9 will still exist as the science and research partner to Pooch & Mutt, but with more of a focus on advancing research, working directly with veterinary clinics, behaviourists, and nutritionists.
From August, dog owners looking to investigate their dog’s gut and overall health will now be available via Pooch & Mutt. And this will be achieved through science-based gut health support for your dog, powered by the science of BIOME9!
For us here at Pooch & Mutt, we’re over the moon with this recent acquisition. It means we’re able to elevate our help and support when it comes to achieving optimal health, wellbeing and longevity for our beloved pooches.
Not much is changing on our side!
We’ll be introducing the Pooch & Mutt Gut Health Test powered by BIOME9 science, and a range of science-backed, specialist Gut Health Supplements that any dog owner can purchase and really get to know their dog and kickstart their gut health journey.
Dog owners who opt for a Gut Health Test will also benefit from a Gut Health Report. This will sit in your Pooch Profile and display a comprehensive insight into your dog’s results. It will include the diversity, richness and balance of their gut microbiome, the health of their gut, and how it might be impacting other key processes in their body.
With these results, you’ll receive a completely tailored Gut Health Supplement plan. This plan consists of 3 phases over a 6-month period.
After receiving your dog’s results, you’ll have the option to purchase a bi-monthly subscription or place individual orders. With multiple payment options, it’s the most accessible way to help target areas in which your dog needs support, all to make your dog the happiest and healthiest version of themselves!
With a repertoire of great, natural dog food, treats, chews, dental sticks and supplements, you might be thinking, why gut health tests?
Here at Pooch & Mutt, for nearly 20 years, we’ve been dedicated to providing dog owners with everything their pooch could possibly need when it comes to diet, nutrition and functional ingredients - whatever gripe, condition or health struggle they have. We know when it comes to dogs, there’s no one size fits all, and we aim to cater for every pooch and mutt.
With a Pooch & Mutt Gut Health Test, we can now take this to a whole new level.
The health and wellbeing of our dogs has always been at the forefront of what we do, and with your dog’s gut microbiome and gut health having such a significant impact on it, venturing into gut health science for dogs was the natural next step for us.
The gut microbiome is a little ecosystem that lives within your dog’s gut that’s teeming with life. Made up of predominantly bacteria, it acts as the epicentre of your dog’s body, playing a key role in many of your dog’s bodily processes. These include:
This all works like a well-oiled machine when the bacteria are balanced, rich and diverse. When it isn’t, or your dog is suffering from dysbiosis, these processes are disrupted and can lead to a long list of symptoms, including:
Usually, this results in multiple trips to the vets, guesswork when it comes to their diet, and leaving our dogs feeling pretty rubbish.
The only way to indicate or rule out dysbiosis, and cut out all this guesswork, is through a Gut Health Test. And the best way to improve things for your dog is through a targeted diet and supplements. With that being the case, taking on this venture and providing dog owners with a truly tailored plan to get their pooch feeling their best selves was a no-brainer!
Well, all great things take time! But, you’re not going to have to wait too long…
You can learn all about your dog’s gut health, their microbiome (and how it affects their everyday health and wellbeing) AND shop Pooch & Mutt Gut Health Tests, and our range of Gut Health Supplements from August 2025.
So if you’re looking to investigate your dog’s gut health or get to the bottom of pesky symptoms that they just can’t seem to kick, keep your eye out for what’s to come!
We can’t wait to get started!
No, the Pooch & Mutt food you know and love is staying the same! Through a Gut Health Test, we’ll be able to recommend a food for your dog that contains exactly what they need to target their problem areas and get them feeling back on track. If anything, there will be more Pooch & Mutt to love with our new range of Gut Health Supplements, which can either be purchased as a recurring subscription or as a part of your normal Pooch & Mutt order.
The quiz is based on general trends in our data, whereas the test shows what’s happening inside your dog. For personalised care and a precise action plan, a Gut Health Test is essential!
Scoop, seal, send.
After your dog poops, use the included scoop to collect a sample the size of 2 kidney beans, seal the tube, complete your activation quiz and pop it in the post using our prepaid envelope. It should only add about 60 seconds to your normal morning dog routine.
