So, you’ve just started your pooch on our Gut Health Supplement plan?

We understand the trials and tribulations and how introducing supplements or medication into their everyday routine can sometimes be tricky. Whether it’s remembering to give it, or persuading them to take it, the thought alone is enough to send you into a spiral!

But fear not. With a few practical tips to put into practice, it doesn’t have to feel like a chore.

Check out our handy hints below!

General supplement feeding guidelines

Your dog’s supplements have been recommended to get just the right amount of missing goodness into their diet, so feeding the right dosage, at the same time daily, is really important.

  • Our supplements are daily supplements - so remember to feed every day to give them the best chance to work their magic.

  • Never double-dose. If you forget to feed it, then just pick up where you left off the following day.

  • Feed at the same time every day. Feeding at the same time daily can enhance absorption and ensures they receive those essential nutrients regularly, for improved overall health and wellbeing.

  • Feed by hand (they’re tasty on their own!), or add crushed with your dog’s food in one sitting (if they’re a little fussier).

  • Make sure you feed the correct daily amount, based on your dog’s weight. Feeding guidelines are available on your packaging, on our website or you can find a general feeding guide below.

This applies to all supplements, with the exception of the Multivitamin Complex Supplement. Those feeding guidelines are below.

Remembering to feed your dog their supplement

Studies show that it takes 21 days for a new behaviour to become a habit. So in those early weeks of feeding their new supplement, do whatever you can to help you remember! Consistency pays off, and before you know it, you’ll be doing it with your eyes closed.

Pair it with a habit
Link feeding their supplement to something that’s already part of your daily routine. It could be when you have your morning coffee, or with their regular mealtime. Routine = results.

Set a reminder
A phone alarm or calendar notification works wonders, especially during those first couple of weeks while you’re getting used to the new addition!

Keep them in sight
Keep them somewhere obvious - like next to their food and treats, by the kettle, or beside your keys. If they’re in sight, you can’t miss them.

Add to your ‘to-do’ list
If you love a list, then make this a part of it. A sticky note on the fridge, a tick box on your phone, or a habit tracker app can help keep you organised.

How to encourage your dog to take their supplements

We’ve all been there. You think you’ve hidden their supplement or medication perfectly, only to notice a little round titbit sitting at the bottom of their bowl,  untouched. Your dog can be sneaky - but so can you…

Our Gut Health Supplements have been tried and tested by a wide range of pooches to make sure we’ve got the taste just right. That said, many dogs can still be suspicious of new foods! Here are a few ways you can smoothly transition your dog onto their new supplements.

  • Mix it with something tasty. We don’t just mean placing it on top of their food in full view; we mean really hiding it. Wet food’s great, as you’re able to place or crush in the middle of a moist chunk, without them even realising. Most dogs will gobble it up without a clue.

  • Make it part of a treat. If they have a favourite treat, then use it to your advantage. Pop the supplement into a bit of cheese, peanut butter (xylitol-free), or a slice of banana - disguise mode activated.

  • Keep it casual. If they sense it’s a big deal, they might resist. So don’t make a fuss - just clever placement or a sneaky snack, and they’ll be none the wiser.

To get a good picture of the diversity status of your dog’s gut microbiome, a dog Gut Health Test is the way to go!

Not only will this provide a breakdown on the diversity of your dog’s gut microbiome, or lack thereof - but where the focus should be when it comes to their diet and supplement intake, to help get things back on track. This will help you tailor a diet strictly to their needs, and their needs only. A gut health test for your dog is the first step towards an all-around happy and healthy pooch.
